Welcome to The Jenny Hammond Primary School.
We know that your child and your family will be happy members of our school community.
The Jenny Hammond Primary School is a small, two-form entry, multicultural community school situated in the southern part of Waltham Forest. Our school comprises children and adults of different faiths and cultures who work happily together. We aim to Engage, Inspire and Empower all of our school community through our curriculum and wider opportunities.
Our school is named after Jenny Hammond who was Mayor of Leyton from 1942-43. She was an active councillor for 35 years and campaigned for just causes throughout her life. The causes that she particularly fought for were those that would benefit the welfare of the local community in Waltham Forest. Jenny Hammond was chair of the Education Committee for 17 consecutive years. She lived close to the school and made regular visits to what were then Cann Hall Infant and Junior schools. She died in her nineties having done much for the communities she served.
Our school is housed in a Victorian building alongside fantastic teaching and learning spaces completed in 2017.
At The Jenny Hammond Primary School we see education as an ongoing process and one that is very much a partnership between school and home. We work tirelessly to build our children’s aspirations and expose them to a range of experiences to help them achieve goals and become successful and we feel proud to have the exciting task of joining with parents and carers in their children’s development.
Providing a child-centred philosophy we treat each child as an individual. Children are organised to work with Learning Partners, small groups, individually or as members of the whole class depending on the learning. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum with high aspirations for all of our children.
We recognise that for our children to feel empowered and be successful academically and in the wider areas of their lives, they need to be given rich and sustained opportunities to develop their cultural capital. We do this in many ways, for example, through our curriculum, extra-curricular activities, trips and visits.
Creativity and mastery in learning sit hand in hand with each other and our children leave Jenny Hammond with the skills needed to succeed in Secondary school and beyond. We are proud of all they achieve and of the young adults they become.
Ofsted had a very positive visit to our school in February 2023 commenting:
'Pupils are happy to attend this school. Teachers think carefully about how to enthuse pupils about their learning. Pupils appreciate this. They talk enthusiastically about their lessons and what they have learned and remembered. Teachers know individual pupils well. They have high expectations for every pupil. The school buzzes with activity.’
The most important people at Jenny Hammond are the children. We look forward to receiving the support of parents and carers and to working with them to inspire all our children to be their best and to realise their full potential.
